​Galla V. Karunakar was born in Peridepi, Kondapi (Andhra Pradesh, India). He completed his B.Sc. (1994) and M. Sc. (1997) studies at Nagarjuna University and University of Hyderabad, respectively. He then completed his M.Phil. under the supervision of Prof. Samudranil Pal and his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. M. Periasamy at the University of Hyderabad. In 2006 he joined the research group of Prof. H. Waldmann, Division of Chemical Biology, Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund (Germany) with a Max-Planck post-doctoral research fellowship. In 2008 he joined Neuland Laboratories (Pharma Company) as a scientist. He served at Tezpur University, Assam as an Assistant Professor (2010–2011). Presently, he is working as a Principal Scientist at the IICT (CSIR), Hyderabad. Main area of research in Chemical Sciences: Synthetic Organic Chemistry. His research interests are (i) Homogeneous catalysis, (ii)Organometallics, identifying the reaction mechanisms, (iii) Process development of drugs and agro products.
